Agenda:

  1. review 12 JAN action item #1 (see below)

Conclusions:

  1. the "shared vision" = we ARE trying to establish KM as a discipline
  2. leaders understand that everyone needs some vision of the end game ... the disconnect is that leaders expected the CoP's to make suggestions, but all CoP's were thinking the leaders would provide more direction

  4. CoP's should research, analyze and then present a strawman

12 Jan 2012

Attendees:

Dean Testa, Ellen Ensel, Mike Stelzer, Ed O'Neal

Agenda:

  1. consolidate 16 DEC 2011 conclusions & action items
  2. review with Annie & Denise for guidance
  3. establish a timeline & forward plan

Conclusions:

  1. if Annie & Denise are unable to attend, we will begin item 3 and review that with them
  2. Functions CoP survey (to validate discovery) will be open until at least 7 FEB 2012
  3. combined approach should be synthesis and validation in parallel
    1. SYNTHESIS: begin to build templates for each audience in Google Docs (for full document collaboration)
    2. VALIDATION: validate template content with survey results
  4. could consider our audience as 3 groups:
    1. Academia
    2. Corporate
    3. New & Current KM Practitioners
  5. Evolve this into a Knowledge Map
    1. It is critical to have feedback from reps of all audiences before too much synthesis is done

Action Items:

  1. Ask Annie & Denise to schedule a review to ensure alignment of how this content should be packaged for utilization <--- ELLEN
    1. do they have one? or should we proceed with our idea?
    2. to be held in early Feb .. suggest Feb 6 or 7
  2. Create an empty Google Doc Spreadsheet that will be each audience's framework <--- DEAN completed 12JAN2012
    1. spreadsheet
    2. presentation
    3. document

16 Dec 2011

Attendees:

Ed O'Neal, Dean Testa, Ellen Ensel, Mike Stelzer, Madelyn Blair, Edwin Morris

Agenda:

  1. Understanding of what each functional group has accumulated to date and the value it has going forward.
  2. Determine how that information needs to be consolidated into an operational KM Model. (Pyramid, Single Frame Template, 3-D box, Graphical Flow Diagram, Summary Sheet of KM Functions, Roles, Competencies with Pop-Up Chart/Windows, etc.)
  3. Action Plan on how to bring these joint efforts to closure.
  4. Questions relevant for the next wave of the KMEF forum in 2012, beginning in February 2012.

Conclusions:

  1. Functions CoP survey to confirm group's synthesis
    1. Functions CoP survey plan to go-live on 19 Dec ... distributed via Twitter, LinkedIn, KMEF, etc
    2. validation of 4 proposed functions: Universal, Specialties, Strategic & Business Aligned
  2. chart Functions & Attributes Comparisonviewed as helpful
  3. Competencies CoP took the approach of resource gathering and real use-cases to augment the Functions analytical approach
  4. Belief that the combined output must be mutually beneficially to academia and business
  5. Confusion over as we combine the 2 CoPs if we are producing something broad or something consumable by specific audiences

Action Items:

  1. Request list of milestone dates be posted on CoP Charter master page
  2. Two CoP's to write charter to ensure agreement on the combined output
    1. need to understand the audience

Combined function and competence CoP path forward (please edit and amplify ruthlessly)

Proposed Actions: (some thoughts to get us started)

1. Agree on the perceived consumers/users of the information developed from the function and competence CoP and how it may benefit them.

Customers
- Business and educational institutions - understand the need for and capability that KM brings to an enterprise; how can KM serve the enterprise from the shop floor/knowledge worker to the strategic KM function?
- Current KM practitioners - what is the scope of my profession; what other roles are possible in this profession; what competences do I need to progress and develop?
- People interested in entering the field of KM - what is KM about; where could I work? what would I do as a KM practitioner?; what competence do I need?
- People wanting to understand what training is available to build these skills - my company needs KM, what learning opportunities are available for the various KM processes that exist

2. Depict the connection of functions and competences so that the linkages are clearly made and ensure that both function and competence listing are complete and accurate. This can be done through an excel spreadsheet, a diagram, etc...

Does the product we created clearly convey the range of KM functions and competences required to serve in a role described by that function. For example, if I am a knowledge worker (universal function) - what are the competences I need to effectively and efficiently leverage knowledge to perform my work?
